Most volunteer opportunities are at our head office near Denver, Colorado, though there are occasionally volunteer opportunities in other locations.

Opportunities Outside the U.S.

Communications Specialist - iDE Cambodia - iDE Cambodia is seeking a volunteer Communications Specialist to develop a communications strategy for iDE Cambodia; to develop English-language communications material in various media; and to develop and mentor local communications staff. The Communications Specialist should have education and minimum 2 years' experience in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or other relevant field and should be available to be in Cambodia for six or more months. Current Volunteer Needs/Internships - U.S. (location variable)

Illustrator - Revise existing technical documentation to be more user friendly through your illustrations, sketches, and cartoons. Documentation includes: user manuals for end user, user manuals for installers, technical specification sheets, and marketing materials for donors and partners. This volunteer position requires 10-15 hours per week as available.

Business Development Intern

iDE is seeking a qualified, capable and hard-working individual to work at the headquarters office in Golden, Colorado. This individual will support the New Business Development team but some flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the organization as a whole. Responsibilities include:

  • Proposal support—writing, formatting, condensing, editing, etc.
  • Knowledge management (including digitizing/organizing older project documents, data entry, etc.)
  • Web and database research on potential donors/funders and creation of donor profiles
  • Compiling and verifying past grant information from all countries. This will entail looking at our history, reconciling project information (donor, start/end date, value of grant/project, description, etc.) and confirming with field offices. The ultimate goal is to have data at our fingertips to accurately report on corporate capabilities/past projects in all iDE countries
  • Support creating additional marketing materials and position papers
  • Conference identification, planning and attendance
  • Receiving, filtering and disseminating information relevant to international development

Community Outreach Intern

This position provides helps raise local awareness of iDE by researching and coordinating presentation opportunities in the Denver Metro area. This internship starts in June and requires a commitment of 15 hours a week for three to six months. Responsibilities include:

  • Research, organize and schedule iDE presentations in the Denver Metro area
  • Provide staffing support during presentations and engage audience members in conversation about iDE and market-based development
  • Assist Investor Relations Coordinator with post-event follow up, including data entry, phone calls and emails

Project/Event Coordinator

This position assists the Investor Relations department with the management of donor relationships, administrative duties and event coordination. This position starts in June and requires a 3-6 month commitment of 15-20 hours per week, depending upon availability. Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain a robust database of individual and corporate donors and family foundations
  • Provide administrative support to Investor Relations Coordinator and Director
  • Research new funding opportunities and help cultivate donor relationships
  • Provide coordination and staffing support for public relations and fundraising events

Greenhouse Project Internships

iDE is seeking interns to assist with sector analysis for the Greenhouse Project, a joint venture of 30 Colorado-based organizations, committed to creating the nation's first collaborative center for international development. The center's mission is to advance sustainable solutions to global poverty by enabling organizations and individual entrepreneurs to collaborate, innovate, and operate more effectively. The center will contain space for offices, conferences and meetings along with a café and retail shop. Center programming will include networking events, training modules, enterprise planning workshops, mentors sessions, keynote speakers, and business plan competitions among others. Programming will emphasize and address issues related water, agriculture, health, education, and energy. Internships are unpaid and require a 3 month commitment. Event Coordinator - The Greenhouse Project

The Event Coordinator Intern will be responsible for planning an event to promote the Greenhouse to be held in September 2012. Candidates must have excellent writing and organizational skills, be highly proficient in MS Office, and have own laptop. Graduate students preferred. Position is available immediately and a commitment through September 2012 is preferred. Responsibilities include:

  • Research potential locations and sponsorships
  • Manage communications with relevant stakeholders
  • Identify sources of entertainment
  • Miscellaneous other projects and duties as assigned

Fundraising Intern - The Greenhouse Project

iDE is currently seeking an intern to assist with fundraising for the Greenhouse Project, the nation's first collaborative center for international development. Candidates must have excellent writing and organizational skills, be highly proficient in MS Office, and have own laptop. Graduate students preferred. Position is available immediately and a commitment through September 2012 is preferred. This position requires a time commitment of 20-30 hours per week, depending on availability. Responsibilities include:

  • Networking and researching prospective corporate and private foundations donors
  • Supporting the proposal preparation process
  • Preparing applications for sponsorships
  • Potential to contribute to proposal writing and editing

 

Research and Business Analyst Intern - The Greenhouse Project

The Research and Business Analyst Intern will be responsible for analyzing the feasibility of different elements of the Greenhouse. The Intern will focus on researching comparable operations, and determining appropriate programming and pricing for the Greenhouse. Particular emphasis on retail shop, virtual network and building operations. Position requires a time commitment of 20 - 40 hours per week, depending on availability.

  • Research comparable shared space initiatives
  • Assist in development of appropriate pricing models
  • Develop a research white paper using information gathered
  • Present a summary of the white paper in a Power Point presentation

Water/Energy/Health/Education Research Interns - The Greenhouse Project (4 positions available)

The Water/Energy/Health/Education Research Interns will work closely with the project team, center tenants and outside partners to identify key Water/Energy/Health/Education related issues and opportunities. Feedback will be used to design program content to highlight key Water/Energy/Health/Education related issues and provide a forum for discussing and developing solutions. Emphasis should be placed on integrated approaches that recognize the relationship between Water/Energy/Health/Education and other key development sectors (eg. agriculture, sanitation). The Water/Energy/Health/Education Interns will be asked to prepare a strategy brief with alternatives, suggested strategies and a roll-out plan. The intern will also be required to present this plan to project leadership. Responsibilities include:

  • Research and define Water/Energy/Health/Education issues that relate to Greenhouse tenants
  • Work with project team, tenants and broader network to define program activities and opportunities
  • Research existing programs in Colorado and elsewhere that focus on Water/Energy/Health/Education issues and develop a partnership strategy
  • Create a strategy brief with alternatives, suggested strategies and a roll-out plan
  • Present strategy and plan to project leadership

Public Relations and Marketing Intern - The Greenhouse Project

The Public Relations and Marketing Intern will help design a promotional campaign for the Greenhouse among different media outlets. This position will support the Greenhouse Project, iDE and Flat Earth LLC, a growing public relations firm developed provide media and promotional services to social enterprises.
