Building Equality

In most countries where IDE works, women play a central role in agricultural production, livestock development, the provision and use of water for household and farming needs, household food security, and in the economy of poor rural households. IDE works to ensure that women and men's opinions, constraints, knowledge, and roles surrounding technology design, agricultural production, market linkages, and natural resource management are analyzed and addressed in project design, implementation, and evaluation.

IDE's programs help poor families generate additional income. We also know this new income improves the absolute position of poor women customers relative to their previous status. The evidence includes investment in better household nutrition, better access to health care, improved ability to access education for both boys and girls, and reduction of labor required for subsistence.
