iDE's Mission

iDE creates income and livelihood opportunities for poor rural households.

Income is a Basic Human Need

iDE is an international non-profit dedicated to ending poverty in the developing world not through handouts, but by helping farm families access the tools and knowledge they need to increase their income.

Why Rural Households?

Most of the poorest individuals on our planet, more than 800 million, are subsistence farmers who survive by farming small plots of land. We work with these populations in order to make a significant impact on global poverty.

Treating Smallholder Farmers as Customers

It's a respect issue. Rather than deciding for them what they need, we allow our customers to decide whether our offerings have value for them or not.

We Listen

Only when we listen to the men and women we work with do we discover what they need in order to increase their incomes.

Sustainability is Key

Giveaways are harmful to local markets and cannot be sustained in the long term. iDE's approach strengthens small farmers' ability to be profitable participants in the local markets that supply their needs and buy their produce.

Market Based Solutions

We have transformed the lives of more than 19 million people through solutions which have helped them achieve income increases that, while small by Western standards, empower them to access life-altering opportunities.

Do you want to be at the forefront of the affordable technology revolution? Your contribution to this initiative will help us develop and market the next wave of affordable, low impact, income enhancing technologies, like low pressure crop sprinklers that can work with drip irrigation systems, and a low-cost water storage bag that can hold 10,000 liters (2,642 gallons) of monsoon rainwater for use during the dry season.
