Where We Work

iDE Around the World

70 percent of the world's 2 billion poor people live in rural areas and survive by growing crops on small plots of land. This is why we work primarily in rural areas and target our efforts first toward agricultural water access for small farmers.

With a head office in Denver, CO, as well as national organizations in Canada and the UK, IDE presently operates in eleven countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Two affiliate organizations in India and Myanmar, which began as IDE country programs, have become financially independent, but maintain close relations within the global IDE group.

iDE's interests started in Africa in 1982 with our first income generating project in Somalia. Since then iDE has established programs in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mozambique, and Zambia. We have also recently established pilot project activities in Mali from our West African regional office in Burkina Faso.

iDE's experience in Asia started in 1984 with our program in Bangladesh. We have launched a number of income-generating technologies in Asia, including treadle pumps and drip irrigation, and have implemented a number of successful social marketing campaigns on poverty and health-related issues. In addition to Bangladesh, we currently have programs in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Nepal, as well as affiliates in India and Myanmar.

Latin America

iDE's work in Latin America began in 2007 in Nicaragua with a pilot project to determine the benefits of affordable micro irrigation for small scale coffee growers. Operations have since expanded into four additional countries with the launch of iDEal Tecnologias, a for-profit social enterprise owned by iDE. iDEal will offer significant cost reduction and streamlined distribution channels for affordable micro irrigation products throughout the region.

Do you want to be at the forefront of the affordable technology revolution? Your contribution to this initiative will help us develop and market the next wave of affordable, low impact, income enhancing technologies, like low pressure crop sprinklers that can work with drip irrigation systems, and a low-cost water storage bag that can hold 10,000 liters (2,642 gallons) of monsoon rainwater for use during the dry season.
